Race Report: 2016 SCCA Majors Tour Round 4

The 2016 SCCA Majors Round 4 at Buttonwillow Raceway

Chino, California (May 03, 2016) – Jackson Racing continues their win streak at Buttonwillow Raceway in Buttonwillow, CA.

Round 4 of the SCCA Majors Tour took place this past weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway. It was going to be a hot weekend, but the Jackson Racing Team knew they had a good package and were confident the Jackson Racing Cooling package would stand the test.

Saturday morning qualifying went by very fast. Oscar Jackson Jr. threw down a fast qualifying time on one of his first few laps and pulled off. That time would be good enough to set the Jackson Racing Team on pole for the weekend by nearly 3 seconds.

Saturday’s race was later that afternoon, and for the first time the Jackson Racing Team was going to be offering a in-car live feed for fans to watch (Future live broadcasts will be available on www.jacksonracing.com/live).  As the race began, Oscar Jr. quickly put a gap between him and the other STU competitors. Oscar Jr. was able to maintain the gap throughout the race and took the win Saturday by a healthy margin.

Sunday was setting out to be hotter than Saturday. The Jackson Racing Team was getting the Live Race Feed ready before the Sunday race, but an internet connection issue didn’t allow the team to get the Live Feed running. This mishap took extra time, and caused the FR-S to arrive late on grid. This resulted in a last position, pit lane start. Oscar Jr. took the blame for this mishap and apologized to crew chief Oscar Sr. and the team. “It was a poor judgement call on my part. I knew the time was ticking down to get to grid, but I really wanted the live feed active for our fans out there,” explained Oscar Jr. “Overall, we learned how to get the feed to work more smoothly in the future. Thanks to RaceCast.me for their help with the setup. We will have a smooth live feed for all future races this year!”

The Sunday race starts, and Oscar Jr. was released from the pit lane after the field exited Turn 1. Oscar Jr. quickly started making his way through the pack towards the front. A full course safety car came up a few laps in. When the race went green again, Oscar Jr. made the push to the front and got around the leader. The Jackson Racing FR-S drove away to the 2nd victory of the weekend.

Next Round: May 28th-30th at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA.

Race Report: 2016 SCCA Majors Tour Round 3

The 2016 SCCA Majors Round 3 at Thunderhill Raceway

Chino, California (April 11, 2016) – Jackson Racing tackles the Ultimate Challenge at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA.

Round 3 of the SCCA Majors Tour was held at the infamous Thunderhill Raceway, where there were 2 course configurations on deck for the weekend. Saturday’s configuration was the normal 3 mile course, while Sunday was the first time the SCCA ran the “5 mile” course for Majors competition.

Friday afternoon was qualifying for Saturday’s race. Track conditions were good and Oscar Jackson Jr. was able to get the Jackson Racing supercharged Scion FR-S in pole position for Saturday’s race. Mother nature decided to throw a curveball for Saturday morning’s race, as the Jackson Racing Team was met with overcast and light rain. Oscar Jr. did a great job adjusting for the conditions and lead flag to flag taking the win.

Sunday the weather had gotten worse. The Jackson Racing Team was left to make a decision on whether the rain would remain light enough to use the race tires for qualifying, or if a switch to rain tires would be needed for qualifying. The rain remained fairly light for the morning so the decision was made to keep the race tires on in search for a dry line. As qualifying was about to begin, the rain picked up. The rain in qualifying wet the track too much, slowing all the times down. Unfortunately, the team had opted to skip Saturday qualifying practice to work on prepping the car for the Sunday 5 mile race, so the Saturday dry qualifying session was in play for times. This would mean Oscar Jr. and the Jackson Racing FR-S would have to battle from the back of the pack in the race.

After qualifying the rain stopped, and the track started to dry out. This made tire choice easier for the race start. The Sunday race began and Oscar Jr. got right to work on moving through the field. He quickly got to the front and kept a great pace to propel the Jackson Racing FR-S to the win!

Race Report: 2016 SCCA Majors Tour Round 2

The 2016 SCCA Majors Round 2 at Willow Springs International Raceway

Chino, California (February 22, 2016) – Jackson Racing heads to Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, CA for Round 2 of the SCCA Majors Tour.

Round 2 of the SCCA Western Conference Majors Tour was filled with excitement! A stacked class in STL and the addition to quite a few competitors in the STU class, made for some great racing and a fun weekend!

Saturday qualifying went extremely well. The weather conditions, and a clean track led to fast lap times and our driver, Oscar Jackson Jr. drove the Hasport/Jackson Racing CRX to the Pole Position in STL. Teammate Clint Boisdeau was right behind in his MotoIQ Civic. Although the CRX would start out front, there was some fast cars in the class and the competition would be tough.

The Saturday STL race was exciting from the drop of the green flag! After a odd split start that didn’t quite go as planned, the CRX was out in front with the rest of the class following close behind.  There was an intense 3-way battle between the CRX, Integra, and an RX3. In the end the Hasport/Jackson Racing CRX came away with the second spot, with Clint Boisdeau in 3rd right behind.

Round 2 brought out a lot of new competitors in the STU class. The new cars that came out were finely prepped, and it would not be an easy race. Thanks to APR Performance, the Jackson Racing FR-S had some new aero components for the weekend and the team worked hard to dial them in. Oscar Jr., again, got the FR-S on pole with some wickedly fast times in Saturday qualifying.

The Jackson Racing FR-S started on pole and quickly started pulling away from the pack. The new APR Performance aero package paired with the BFGoodrich R1-S race tires gave Oscar Jr. the grip he needed to keep a fast pace all the way to the end for the win!

The team decided to make some suspension adjustments to the CRX for the Sunday STL race in preparation for another battle with the very well sorted Integra. The CRX jumped out to a early lead ahead of the Integra. Unfortunately, Oscar Jr. was slowed by some other class racers and losing the momentum cost the CRX the lead. Oscar Jr. did a great job trying to catch the leader, but the Integra was just out of reach. The Hasport/Jackson Racing CRX took 2nd, with Clint Boisdeau rounding out the podium in 3rd.

The Jackson Racing FR-S started on Pole again for Sunday. An S2000 came out of the gates fast and got to the inside and was leading exiting turn 1. Oscar Jr. was able to quickly get the lead back and push forward. The FR-S continued to keep a fast pace for the remainder of the race to finish first. The FR-S has been running fantastic and the Jackson Racing team looks forward to seeing how the car will perform at its first visit to Thunderhill Raceway in April for Round 3 of the Majors Tour.
